The paintings of Craig Blietz reflect his intense training in academic figure painting yet still exude his expressive concerns. Inspired by the domestic and wild animals around his rural home, Blietz manages to convey intelligence and character in his subjects without succumbing to anthropomorphic artifice. The dignity his subjects impart are a result of a multi-step process. Often, Blietz will create up to ten studies in pencil, ink, or gouache before starting an oil painting. His finished paintings are impressive and enduring. Read a review of the artist's debut exhibition with the Gallery in our Press Pages.
