Tory Folliard Gallery - Janica Yoder

Photographer Janica Yoder combines classical themes such as nature, sensuality, and the female nude with compositional devices such as analogous and complementary color schemes and dynamic formal relationships to draw the viewer in and establish a visual and thematic dialogue. Her crystalline flower portraits are contemplative in their grandeur and sensual in their relationships to one and other.

Using a Hasselblad camera and color film, the artist only shoots in natural light. In spite of how they appear, the colors in the figurative works are created by draping colored fabrics around the models. The images begin with traditional photographic methods but then are scanned for enlarging and printing. There is no manipulation of the prints during the scanning or printing process.
