Using a combination of vintage and contemporary photographic equipment and printing processes, John Shimon and Julie Lindemann create allegorical vignettes about the complexities of contemporary Midwestern existence. Their most recent color photographs reference the tradition of landscape painting and the psychic residue of built environments.
The artistic duo have authored several books and recently enjoyed a solo exhibition of portraiture at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Their list of collections includes the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; Illinois State University Rural Documentary Photography Collection, Normal, IL; Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY, New Paltz, NY; Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Madison, WI; Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI; and the Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI.
