Mark Brautigam highlights an idiosyncratic character that has become such a part of our immediate environment it is often disregarded. While photographing the unconventional side of Wisconsin, he seeks out intriguing elements of ordinary locations. The true beauty of these otherwise overlooked settings communicate naturally in these large format photographs. The artist lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps for four years. Artist's Statement I never set out with a specific theme or destination, only with the goal of fabricating a unique and personal portrait of Wisconsin, and uncovering some of its muted histories. The resulting photographs are ripe with beauty, isolation, humor, irony, melancholy, and destruction. Ultimately, they are a product of the hunger and boredom that is the natural rhythm of everyday life.
